Swim Meet 101

What to Bring to Swim Meets

Meets generally last 3-4 hours depending on weather and the size of the team we are swimming against.  Please mark all clothing and personal items with the swimmer's name.

- Towels - 2-3 per swimmer as they generally get wet quickly

- Goggles

- Swim Cap

- Sweat pants/sweat shirt - for cooler weather and evenings

- Flip Flops or sneakers

- Sunscreen

- Bug repellant

- Sharpie Marker - to mark event/heat/lane assignments on swimmer's forearm

- Lawn Chairs and picnic blankets

- Cooler with cold drinks and snacks

Snacks and Drinks

Healthy snacks and water or sports drinks are preferred.  Concessions are available at all meets.

What to do before you leave your home for the Meet

1. Print your heat sheet- it will be emailed to you 

2.  Label your swimmer with Sharpe marker, they need to have BPS and they swimmer ID number in Swimmingly-a card was given to your swimmer at practice with their number on it.

3.  Make sure you are signed up to receive SwimTopia alerts thru text, in case of inclement weather 

4.  Make sure you have your BPS swim cap and goggles!  Caps will always be for sale at meets for $5

Your child will need to have their Event Number, Heat, Lane for each event written on them in marker. 

Relays/Order

- The 150m Relay consists of 6 swimmers.  Swimmers 1/3/5 start at the timers end of the pool.  Swimmers 2/4/6 begin on the opposite side.  

- 100m Relays will consist of 4 swimmers.  Swimmers 1/3 begin at the timers end of the pool.  Swimmers 2/4 begin on the opposite side. 

- 100/200m Medley Relay Order- BACK (swimmer 1), BREAST (swimmer 2), FLY (swimmer 3), FREE (swimmer 4)

- 100 Individual Medley - FLY, BACK, BREAST, FREE 

- All 25m events will begin on the end opposite from the timers

- All 50, 100, 200m individual events and 200m relays will begin on the timers end
